department did. that's the kind of question they're going to ask david petraeus. but here is the problem with bengha benghazi. it was a huge cia base. and what were they doing down there? were they simply buying up arms off the local market, surface to air missiles? even some are arguing that this attack on september 11th had something to do with an arms deal that went bad and there are rumor that is possibly this cia unit or somebody down there was buy i buying arms to send to syria. i frankly discount them all. i see no evidence of it. somebody has to give us the answers. this is why this controversy is carried on so long because there's absolutely no clarity. we, as americans, want to know why four american diplomats were killed. >> let's specifically -- there is word that the people on the ground in benghazi, libya, cried out for help and help did not come. >> i think it's clear that the ambassador, who was murdered, did express doubts to washington about the security. there was no backup. the problem is, if there was a seven-hour gun battle for that consulate, that's not fast enough

today. one about former cia director david petraeus, the other on the attack on the consulate in benghazi. what do you expect to hear and what are the questions you have that are most pressing? >> well, we'll have top people from across the administration coming in very soon to talk to us about benghazi and we want to obviously understand the facts and what we knew and when we knew it. it was a terrible tragedy that we lost a u.s. ambassador among -- along with several others and we need to understand who knew what and when and we have to obviously make sure that something like this could never happen again. hold those people accountable. >> the time line is one thing. what can you tell us about the possibility that paula broadwell might have had access to classified information? >> well, these are things that we want to get into more details about, as well, the whole general petraeus situation is unfortunate. i have incredible respect for general petraeus and he had done an excellent job as cia director. i found him to be very credible and forthcoming and was doing a good job
